The Pain Reduction Guarantee

The Institute of Chronic Pain and Injury Relief, Warwick is as far as we are aware the first clinic in Europe (and possibly the world, but we didn’t look that far!) to have a third-party insurance policy in place which fully guarantees the work undertaken by it’s physicians. This is not just a ‘satisfaction guarantee’ but a fully fledged policy issued by a UK-based FSA regulated insurance broker underwritten by an international insurance company and is the results of years of meticulous study and analysis of how to improve treatment results.

This unique position in the world of back pain care is an extension of our dedication to patients and their needs; “I never understood why patients were left to find out for themselves whether treatment worked for them and be left to pick up the bill even when it did not. I think as a clinician I should be able to identify those cases that will benefit from my care, deliver the results and be held accountable if I don’t”.

The guarantee is in respect to the results in the management and treatment of any complaints which following examination have been mutually agreed to be part of the treatment protocol. This means that after examination and assessment of your case you will be presented with:

  • what level of result can be achieved
  • how long it will take to achieve this
  • what it will cost to achieve them

And if you are happy with that, stick to the treatment protocol as prescribed, do as you are advised to do and don’t injure yourself in the meanwhile you are guaranteed to get those results, over the time period and at the cost that was initially agreed. If those results are not delivered, you will be able to claim every penny spent on treatment received. The cost of the initial assessment, any X-rays, MRI scans or any other test or treatment received from other parties is not covered by this guarantee.

Although the following list is by no means exhaustive of the complaints which fall under this guarantee it is a good representation and includes but is certainly not limited to:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Muscular pain
  • Joint pain

The clinic provides you with treatment and management of the cause of your complaint, and not just the symptoms. In this way, better, longer lasting results can be guaranteed. “I have a long and proven track record in helping people who suffer with “difficult” and so-called “unsolvable cases” which in reality is only testimony of what you can do when you look a little further”.

Additional points

How do we know whether you are telling the truth or whether you are trying to get the treatment for free?
We use various indices, questionnaires and other tools in order to assist you, and us, in accurately monitoring your progress. These indices and questionnaires are a scientifically valid means of measuring pain and disability levels. With the assistance of these tools, but above all your own judgment of your progress, we will monitor your progress throughout.

That said, no test is ever certain, and therefore we will refund you even if you just say you didn’t get better even if you did. “I have so far never experienced any occasion where I felt a patient falsely reported a lack of improvement in their condition to enable them to obtain a refund. I like to think that is because the clinic delivered at least what it set out to do and often a lot more.”

The clinic prides itself on being reputable and ethical and therefore we have never refused to pay a refund pursuant to our guarantee, whatever the reasons. It is also important to understand that no clinician ever knows everything and that all we can ever reasonably be asked to do is to make an educated evaluation of the situation. “No amount of MRI scans, X-rays or blood tests will ever tell you anything 100% for certain and as such I don’t think there is any need for me to pretend that I do. That is why, if you were not to achieve your expected results, there will be no dispute whatsoever over refunding you.”

In order to better understand your progress, we do perform regular physical examinations throughout the treatment program. Our extensive experience enables us to accurately correlate objective clinical examination findings with pain and disability levels. The majority of our experience in this respect was gained through performing pre-employment health screenings in industry and high-level athletics.

However “was I to become aware that a client is dishonestly understating their progress, I will immediately terminate their treatment. In this rare circumstance I will of course still honour our guarantee and give a refund no matter what but won’t continue treatment.” We always reserve the right to discontinue care or to refuse to offer care.

Important note to patients who use private medical health care cover to pay for care: We are recognised provider to BUPA, PPP AXA and all other insurance policies so far applied for in the past. Treatment cost paid for through such policies will not be refunded under any circumstance.
